Over the past 9 months, the students of UG10 have been investigating the micro and macro themes around ‘home’, ‘identity’ and ‘community’. The studio has enabled them to develop a wider understanding of the design and procurement of community projects through engaging with commissioning bodies and policy makers. Each student has then developed their own toolkit for community engagement which they implemented in their projects.

The Community Power Tools event offered students the opportunity to present their projects to a panel of experts in public engagement and community-led design. This was followed by a discussion between students and panellists about the power of good communication around architecture and the role local people can therefore play in their built environment. At Archio, we feel these skills are not always developed by architects but are vitally important to ensure we design the best spaces and places for the future growth and development of cities.
